LITTLE FOODIES

Prune Puree (4+ months)

Constipation is inevitable when you start introducing your little ones to solids. Their little systems are still calibrating and adjusting to the new food and every once in a while, their system gets overloaded and they get a nasty bout of constipation.

Having a little one struggle with constipation is the worst. They’re miserable and trying to push with all their might to get some relief, and you as a parent feel completely helpless and a little guilty for being the one who introduced the constipation-causing solids. No, it’s no fun.

I learned very early on that having a good prune puree in the freezer at all times is a must. And in fact, it’s good practice to serve it to baby regularly just to keep everything moving along smoothly. If you keep this prune puree in steady rotation, you can keep constipation at bay which is a wonderful thing in my book.

This version is my go to. It’s super simple to make and tastes delicious.

Enjoy!

NOTE: If you need immediate relief, put an ounce or two of the prune steeping liquid into a bottle and give it to baby. The “prune juice” will work really quickly and give baby some much needed relief.

PRUNE PUREE

  • 3 cups of dried prunes
  • Boiling water

Place the dried prunes in a large heat-resistant bowl and cover them with just-boiled water. Let sit for about ten minutes. Pour everything—prunes and water—into your food processor and blend until smooth.

Note: If the puree is still too thick, add more hot water until the desired consistency is reached.
