I’m not a bread lover by nature, but warm soft pretzels are definitely a weakness of mine. That salty golden-brown exterior encasing all that lovely airy dough…absolutely delicious! I’m the mall shopper that can’t pass an Auntie Anne’s without buying a cup of their delicious pretzel bites. And why do their pretzels bites taste so much better than their standard shaped pretzels? It’s a mystery.

*Probably has something to do with butter ratios, and that sort of knowledge will only lead to heartbreak…best not to meddle in things that don’t concern me, that’s my motto.

Soft pretzels are also so versatile in flavor—salted, cinnamon sugar, garlic Parmesan, “everything bagel”—a flavor for every palette. Oh, and let’s not forget the all-important dips and sauces that accompany these beauties—mustard, melty cheese, marinara, caramel, honey mustard. What more could you possibly need in a snack food?!

My only complaint is convenience. There’s no chance I’m running to the mall every time I get a soft pretzel craving. I’m also not going to spend an enormous amount of time kneading, proving, and baking dough every time I need a fix. So, in typical Jillian form, I’ve found a time-saving cheat.

Pizza Dough Soft Pretzels!

Yeah, you read that correctly. I have discovered that you can use pizza dough to make soft pretzels!

Now for all you purists out there, you can absolutely make your favorite homemade pizza dough for this recipe…but at that point, why not just make traditional homemade pretzel dough? Remember, this is a time-saving cheater recipe, so we’re going to bypass the need to make dough altogether, and simply use the store-bought pizza dough you find in the refrigerator section. You’ll be enjoying fresh-from-the oven, soft pretzels in under an hour! Topping ideas and a tasty beer cheese recipe can be found here.
