Flashback to 2018…

August in Las Vegas is HOT! I don’t mean hot like: “Oh no, the ice in my iced coffee is melting while I lounge here by the pool.” No, it’s hot like: “If I dare leave my air-conditioned home, I’ll go up in flames in 0.3 seconds!”  No joke!

In that kind of heat I don’t even want to THINK about turning on the stove or oven. It’s just not worth it. But, while Adrian, Liev, and I could survive on Door Dash or a variety of non-cook meals, Silas–baby Silas at the time–was still eating purees only, and puree food meant using the stove or oven to “cook” something for him.

Baby Silas – 2018

This predicament led me on a quest for non-cooked purees. I knew a fruit combo was the way to go, so I headed to the market to see which fruits were available. I came across honey-mangos. They’re smaller than your typical red mangos but, oh, so sweet. I chopped them up and threw them in the blender with a pint of blackberries (grabbed those because they just looked so yummy in their little plastic containers). The result was delicious.

This puree is sweet and tart, all at the same time. It’s the perfect summer puree for your little one.

MANGO BLACKBERRY PUREE:

  • 4 honey mangos
  • 1 pint blackberries

Combine in blender or food processor and blend until smooth. No cooking required (YAY!)

NOTE: If you can’t find honey mangos and are using standard red mangos, you might want to swap out the blackberries for blueberries. The red mangos aren’t as sweet as the honey mangos and the tartness of the blackberries might overpower the mangos.
